Abstract

The face is the business card of the human being through it we express and relate. Thus, aesthetic procedures are well known to exalt the beautiful and improve facial aspects that bother some patients, such as the rounded face. The Bichat ball was first described in the literature in 1732, in children it plays an important role in the breastfeeding process. Bichectomy is the surgical procedure performed in a dental office, under local anesthesia, without visible scars, which aims at partial removal of the adipose body from the cheek. The removal provides the patient with a more harmonious face, enhancing the angles of the region of the mandible branch and the malar region, decreasing the volume of the middle and lower third of the face, giving the face a thinner appearance. This study aimed to present a literature review on the procedure of bichectomy for aesthetic purposes. The surgery is simple, of short duration, without the need for surgical hospitalization. The final result is observed 6 months after the procedure when there is total resorption of the edema in soft tissues. When properly indicated and executed, it offers harmonious results in relation to the thirds of the face.
