Abstract

Dental care after radiotherapy in the head and neck region, in patients who received this modality of anticancer treatment, is essential due to the high frequency of side effects that affect the oral cavity. Radiotherapy as an effective method in the treatment of cancer causes many impacts on oral health, which reduces the quality of life of patients. The manifestations that most affect the oral cavity are: mucositis, xerostomia, dysgeusia, trismus, radiation caries, secondary infection and osteoradionecrosis. Dental monitoring can reduce the effects of radiation on the oral cavity.
