Contributions of orthodontics to oral rehabilitation: a review study

The present work aimed to carry out a literature review on the previous application of orthodontic treatment in restorative dentistry, in particular with dental prosthesis. This is a narrative-type literature review. The search for articles was carried out digitally, in the Virtual Health Library, Scientific Electronic Library Online and Google Scholar databases, using the following descriptors: orthodontics; oral rehabilitation; dental prosthesis, interdisciplinary practices. On the other hand, the following exclusion criteria were considered: publications unavailable in full text and in duplicate. Publications related to the objectives listed in this research were included, articles in Portuguese or English, published in the last 10 years, available in full text. Duplicate articles. Orthodontic movements are of great importance in rehabilitation treatments, as they improve the position of the teeth in the arch, favoring the biomechanics of the prostheses and often avoiding unnecessary wear and tear on the dental elements, in addition to having numerous benefits such as their low cost, high effectiveness. It is concluded that the multidisciplinary approach between orthodontics and the area of oral rehabilitation has been fundamental in the planning of a treatment capable of guaranteeing quality and longevity for the cases, in addition to also providing an improvement in the quality of life and self-esteem. patient's esteem.
