Contemporary endodontics has evolved with new materials and techniques, enabling root canal treatment to be performed in just one session in most cases. However, this technique ends up generating doubts for professionals about when to use it. In addition, the patient will not feel safe if the dental surgeon does not resolve any doubts, due to lack of preparation. In this sense, the aim of the article was to review the available literature in relation to endodontic techniques: single and multiple session, describing and addressing their main applicability and limitations. To reach the proposed objective, this research was based on other articles already developed, prioritizing those of greater relevance to the proposed topic and presenting a clinical case in patients who underwent endodontic treatment. During this study, real cases of treatments carried out in clinical centers were presented, enabling, with a scientific basis, a greater understanding of which type of endodontic treatment is recommended for different situations. Upon completion of this study, it will be possible to understand that both have their indications, advantages and disadvantages, and it is up to the professional to decide the best therapeutic approach, evaluating the particularities of each case and the patient's general health.
