Implantology is already established with regard to the quality of oral rehabilitation of edentulous patients. Osseointegration was proposed by Branemark through two surgical stages, but the evolution of surgical techniques provided the improvement of diagnostic methods, improvement in the quality of the implant in design and surface, as well as a better knowledge of the biology of the tissues involved. The objective of this work is to review the current literature addressing the biological perspective of the implant installation process, concepts such as osseointegration and primary stability, definition of immediate load and its indications, advantages and disadvantages of the technique.
