In the practice of implantology, in order to provide the patient with an implant similar to the natural tooth, it is necessary to define natural and harmonic gingival contours. The anatomical and biological aspects of the dental element and its support and protection structures, and the principles that involve these aspects must be respected when placing the implant, including the emergency profile. This includes observing the critical and subcritical area of the emergency profile, which influence the aesthetic aspects of the prosthesis on the implant, affecting the soft tissue profile and the stability of the gingival margin. The objective of the research was to analyze, through a literature review, the importance of the emergency profile in the success of the implant, carrying out a literature review that addressed definitions of emergency profile, highlighting the critical and subcritical area, its location as well as the attention that must be given to these before, during and after the implant placement, in the follow-up of the results. It was concluded that the emergency profile is a determining factor for success in the area of implantology, because it influences the stability of the implant, and depends on the correct manipulation of soft and hard tissues so that the contours are well defined, and thus achieve the success of the implant procedure.
