Abstract

Dental posts are used in dentistry for the purpose of restoring lost tooth structure. The task of selecting the best type of post for a tooth with extensive coronary destruction, treated endodontically, can be a complex and imprecise exercise for the dentist. Provided that, the ideal post must meet biological, mechanical and also aesthetic requirements. Thereby, the purpose of this literature review was to make a comparison between the cast metal post and the glass fiber post. In view of the information collected and analyzed, it was possible to conclude that if there is at least 2 mm of remaining coronary structure, any post system can present good clinical results. Therefore, the dentist must analyze and plan each case individually, and know how to select the most appropriate post to be able to offer the best treatment to the patient.
