Abstract

Pathologies in the apical region of dental elements are dysfunctions frequently evidenced in dental practice and in most cases require endodontic treatment. Currently, there is an increase in the search for orthodontic procedures by adult individuals, consequently, a greater number of teeth that require orthodontic movement and that have already been treated and / or require endodontic treatment. Every dental element submitted to orthodontic treatment has different biological and mechanical reactions in its supporting tissues, which can result in root resorption, through the process of apical remodeling, which is inevitable and clinically acceptable. In the literary review, we sought to identify the ideal time for the beginning of orthodontic movement after the endodontic treatment was completed, the possible consequences of this, and the endodontic treatment outcome. 30 journal articles and 04 books were selected regarding the association between endodontic treatment and orthodontic movement associated with external root resorption in the PubMed - US National Library of Medicine National Institute of Health; SciELO - Scientific Eletronic Library Online, published between 1856 - 2019. After analysis it was found that there are not enough conclusive records on the subject, but orthodontic movement does not interfere in the repair of periapical lesions, as long as the endodontic treatment is satisfactory, and the pulp tissue is not related to the process of root resorption induced during orthodontic treatment. Finally, there is no exact date for the beginning of orthodontic movement after endodontic treatment, but it is indicated to wait 15 to 30 days.
