This article aims to synthesize the available evidence on the etiology and treatment of peri-implantitis, an inflammatory condition affecting the tissues surrounding osseointegrated implants, resulting in bone loss and compromised oral health. Diagnostic and therapeutic strategies were reviewed, highlighting the importance of strict hygiene protocols and early interventions. Non-surgical methods, such as mechanical debridement and laser therapy, were evaluated for their effectiveness in biofilm removal, alongside the use of systemic antibiotics and surgical approaches like guided bone regeneration. The results suggest that personalized treatments and careful maintenance are crucial for long-term success. It is concluded that, despite the challenges, integrating new technologies with traditional practices can significantly improve outcomes for patients with peri-implantitis, ensuring the durability of implants and oral health.
