Abstract

Botulinum toxin is widely used for aesthetic and therapeutic purposes in dentistry, among the therapeutic purposes it can be used in patients with bruxism, which has a high prevalence rate in the population, patients with temporomandibular disorders, myofascial pain, headaches, among others, seeking to improve the quality of life. This review aims to promote a focus on the therapeutic use of botulinum toxin, based on published scientific articles. The literature consolidates the use of botulinum toxin with satisfactory results in several cases, but it is essential that the dental surgeon takes precautions regarding the indication, evaluating the cases separately.
