To carry out a literature review about orthodontic approaches and conducts with a view to molar uprighting. The search for review articles was performed digitally, in the Virtual Health Library, Scientific Electronic Library Online and Google Scholar databases, using the following descriptors: dental impaction; dental uprighting; tooth movement techniques; orthodontic anchorage procedures; impacted tooth; traction. Publications related to the objectives listed in this research, articles in Portuguese or English, available in full text, were included. Duplicate articles were excluded. The most recurrent design of publications was of review studies, case reports and prospective clinical trials. Two main avenues for verticalization were predominant. The first, through other teeth as anchorage, and the second, through the use of temporary extra-alveolar skeletal anchorage devices. Among the measures to increase predictability and stability of cases, the reviewed literature highlighted the use of multiple approaches in the same patient, especially the concomitant use of aligners and mini-implants. The latter was cited as having better control in relation to undesirable effects.
