Implant dentistry emerged with the aim of rehabilitating totally or partially edentulous patients in a fixed and efficient way, resuming aesthetic and functional functions. However, there are aggravating problems that arise with the clinical evolution of cases with dental implants. In addition to periodontics, a subarea that emerges in implant dentistry is concerned with studying and controlling the tasks we perform in peri-implant tissues. The objective of this work was to briefly review the literature on the evolution of rehabilitation with dental implants and present a classification and alternative therapies for cases of peri-implant disease, in addition to presenting some treatment protocols for these cases.
