Abstract

The objective of this article was to carry out a literature review to evaluate the existing evidence of the crown-implant relationship in short dental implants. Short implants have been widely used and, contrary to previous beliefs, have proven to be successful. Most existing studies have shown that a 3:1 crown-implant ratio is not related to marginal bone loss and prosthetic complications. A high percentage of implants were successful, with minimal crestal bone loss. There is a need for more studies evaluating marginal bone loss from rehabilitations in the posterior regions of extremely resorbed maxillae and mandibles supported by short-length dental implants with a high crown-implant ratio.
