Abstract

The objective of this article was to carry out a literature review of the last five years to evaluate the existing evidence from the most current studies on short implants in the posterior region of the maxilla and their effectiveness. Short implants have recently been introduced as a new approach to simplify implant placement while avoiding reconstructive procedures. Existing studies suggest comparable survival and success rates for short and regular dental implants. Some studies indicate that there is less marginal bone loss around short implants compared to regular implants. In the short and medium term, short implants work in the posterior maxilla. Short implants can be an alternative to regular implants with sinus floor lifting. More long-term studies are needed to reach more conclusions.
