The use of mini-implants has increasingly become an easy indication for obtaining anchorage in orthodontic treatments, with a consensus among orthodontists that their use has represented one of the most relevant advances in orthodontic anchorage. Mini implants have made treatments simpler and considerably reduced the risks and unwanted effects compared to conventional treatments, especially due to their size and variety that offer the orthodontist different installation possibilities, promoting benefits for both the patient and the professional, even in relation to cost-benefit. Therefore, this work aimed to use mini orthodontic implants, analyzing: advantages, disadvantages, clinical applications and indications. For this, an extensive textual search was conducted in: books, theses, dissertations, as well as; articles indexed in databases such as: PubMed, SciELO, Google Scholar, Medline, Lilacs and BBO. It was concluded that mini-implants are efficient as skeletal anchorage devices allowing complex dental mechanics, in order to minimize undesirable effects on dental elements adjacent to movements.
