Abstract

Among the various alterations caused by problems during the development phase of the dentition, maxillary atresias, discrepancies in the arch perimeter, crossbites and dental rotations, are frequent situations in the routine of the orthodontist. There is a constant search for orthodontic devices that are effective in intercepting and correcting such dental and skeletal problems. Developed by Ricketts in 1975 by modifying Porter's “W” arch, the quad-helix proved to be a highly versatile and effective orthodontic tool, affordable and easy to manufacture, which helps both in the treatment of transverse and anteroposterior problems, whether in growing or not growing patients. Thus, this work aims to present the various applications and variations of the Ricketts quadi-helix apparatus.
